Well, all good things must come to an end.

We all said our goodbye’s around the breakfast table, as Elaine headed into London for work, and Scarlett and Isobel went off to school.

We took a last walk in the woods that back onto Dan & Elaine’s garden, and it had just stopped raining so Dan loaned us a rainsuit for Liam to wear so he didn’t get too mucky. And so we all traipsed through the woods with Uncle Dan, George in the lead, and enjoyed our last hurrah in the English countryside, before piling into the car and heading back to the airport.

It was so wonderful to see Liam and Scarlett and Isobel all playing together. They’re the closest family that we’ve got, and they’re so close in age, that we simply have to make sure we make efforts to get them altogether regularly! Besides, that lovely English Countryside made for a wonderful long weekend getaway. Maybe next time we’ll get to try out the trampoline… and the delicious looking (but not yet ripe) raspberry bushes!

Thanks again, Dan and Elaine (and Scarlett, Isobel and George!) It was a wonderful weekend. You really went out of your way to make it great.

The trip home was fairly uneventful. Liam was pretty good, even though it was full on naptime and he was very, very tired. Once we got him home, he happily pottered around the apartment and the terrace, rediscovering his toys. Home sweet home.
