Normally we’d wait until the end of the weekend to post an update on Liam, but it’s been a helluva day.

It was with a wee bit of anxiety and sadness that we had the sofabed from Liam’s room wrapped up and put into storage this morning, to make room for his new toddler bed. Liam and mummy both said goodbye’s to the sofa as daddy and the mover man carried it down the stairs.  It wasn’t just a piece of furniture, but it was the place where we both enjoyed pre-nap and pre-bedtime cuddles with Liam for the last 2 years. Countless books have been read snuggled up together on Liam’s sofa.

But he’s a big boy now.  And he’s ready for his big bed, and we’d really like to be able to put his toys in his own room (instead of scattered all around the living room!)  So the next order of business is to order him a bookshelf for his books and toys!  Tomorrow his old cot and dresser are being picked up, so we’ll see how much room we have to work with.

The transition has gone pretty smoothly so far.  The bed wasn’t assembled as of naptime today, but Liam was willing to sleep on his new mattress on the floor of his room (as long as daddy stayed near by while he fell asleep). He was a bit anxious at bedtime, so mummy snuggled up next to him in his proper bed until he drifted off to sleep. We’ll give him a few days to get used to his new bed before we start to play hardball and sleep train him to fall asleep on his own.

So, to paraphrase Liam… “Liam’s got a new bed!!”  He’s spent a lot of time just kind of lying around on his bed this evening, enjoying his new space.  We’d like to again thank Grandpa and Grandma Woolley for buying Liam his first real bed. And we’d like to thank Granny Simmons for Liam’s gorgeous duvet cover and pillowcase. We appreciate these things, and we make sure to tell Liam who’s loving him from overseas.

And if that wasn’t enough of an event today, Liam’s also been in for his first haircut. Just a wee trim to get rid of those girly bits in the back… and yes, we’ve saved a few locks.  He was a champ, and although he was a bit anxious about what was going on, he was reasonably easily distracted by a few duckie key rings and watching a bit of Nemo.

I think tomorrow (Sunday) will be a bit of a low key day. Other than Liam’s baby furniture being picked up in the morning, we’ve made no plans. I think we’ve all had enough excitement for one weekend….
