Realizing we only have 2 full days in the Calvi area, we decided to head north to a small fishing village called St Florent. We’ve been told that there are two pristine, remote beaches near St Florent that can only be reached on foot (3 hour hike), by quad bike over wild sand dunes, or by boat. The water is crystal clear and shallow, and the sand is soft and white, and the beach edges the Agriates Desert, surrounded by mountains.

The day trip started off on a bad foot when Liam was feeling car sick only halfway there… but we took a bit of a break and gave him the granules that the pharmacy gave us for exactly this situation, and we continued on our way without any vomit episodes! Hooray!

We arrived in town and took a bit of a whiz around… ate a quick and mediocre lunch, and then headed to the marina to catch a boat out to Lotu Beach (20 minutes away).

We were not disappointed!!

Lotu beach, despite the wind today, was wide, sweeping, wild and clear. The 400 meter long beach is known for being one of the most beautiful in France, and the fact that it is so difficult to get to makes it rather secluded, comparatively. There are no restaurants or amenities. An hour walk across the scrubland and you would find the other ‘secret’ beach…. but that wasn’t on the agenda for Liam’s little legs! So we spent the afternoon playing on the beach, and just having a chilled out time until we had to catch the boat back to the Marina.

Apparently it’s not uncommon for wild cows to come down and share the beach with the tourists… but not today. Pity, that would have been memorable!! I’ve heard of the infamous ‘cow beach’ before!

So we headed back to town late afternoon, took a bit more of a wander, grabbed a quick coffee, and then headed back for the one-and-a-half hour drive back to the house. Liam was so tired he slept the whole way back. We woke him briefly at home so he could eat and shower, and then he said he didn’t want iPad, he only wanted to go to bed.

Did you catch that…. HE DIDN’T WANT TO PLAY iPAD.

This has never happened before. Kid MUST have been super-tired.

We’re planning a mountain village / beach combo day tomorrow for our last day in the Calvi area… this week is going much to quickly!!! So glad we didn’t plan on seeing more of the island, as there is so much to explore just in this one region. We’ll just have to come back another time! 🙂
